Didn't want any new-fangled fancy-schmancy "bro-brah-cue" with craft cocktails and artisanal brioche buns, so I looked for some old school barbecue joint that wasn't too far from my hotel and had a decent history. Old Brick Pit Barbecue popped into my feed and online, it looked pretty legit.
With 40 years of cooking over hickory, it had to be rockin' good.Well, it was good. Not great. Good. The pork was smokey and super tender with a sweet looking smoke ring. The barbecue itself gets a solid "B+" grade which is well above my average out of NC experience. However, the sauce they poured over the meat was not overly pleasant to me. It tasted metallic and was distracting from the otherwise tasty meat. The chop of the meat was rough and inconsistent. Stringy pieces intertwined with chunky chunks that made each bite different. And not in a good way.
Old Brick BBQ pork sandwiches do not come with slaw. Their social media images show white slaw on the sandwiches which is a little misleading. I asked if it came with slaw and the register attendant said "No" pretty bluntly with no offer to add it on the sandwich or even add as a side. Hmph.

Speaking of sides... I'm a sucker for a classic Brunswick Stew and the pictures online looked awesome. It was indeed, awesome. Was it my definition of what I love in a perfect Brunswick Stew? Nah. But was mighty flavorful with better than average consistency. Not overly thick, but it also was a far cry from a lot of stews I have had that are actually vegetable soups. Super yummy and I would get a bigger portion next time.
If you're looking for 'cue in the North Atlanta area, Old Brick is a good option (if you have them leave off that odd sauce and maybe beg for some slaw). 7.5/10
